‘The presentness of painting keeps one alert and wondering.’
From a conversation with Robert Kramer
Colors brewed and divulged onto the canvas into a steamy dream, one layer amalgamates with another and we see through lines and twists of fated layers.
Water is my preferred medium : translucent watercolors , inks transmuting on paper or thick acrylic drips of paint trickling down into built up layers on canvas. My paintings are informal, playful, immediate and essential.
My art is a search for something that is both inexplicable and deeply known . An improvised stroke of a questioning gesture discovers itself next to a bold color, the juxtaposition of it’s shape next to a gentle blur, provoking something unexpected which gives pause and speaks.
Painting allows information to come through us, from non-visual sources and gives voice to the ineffable. When the emotional, intellectual & spiritual come together in visual form and give meaning, those are the moments I paint for.
The limits of a canvas and it’s colors can reflect ourselves with infinite possibilities.
